Everett was discharged from the hospital this morning at about 10:00am. We will miss many of the wonderful people we have met here -- the doctors, nurses, aids and interns all made us feel very at home. We could not imagine a better group of people to support this process!
This is Jane, a social worker from our agency here in WI. She is the one who has been meeting with Amanda weekly -- what a tremendous support she has been for her. And on top of that, she's efficient and organized (2 imperative qualities in this game). She had to be there to officially "receive" the baby from the hospital and then turn him over to us. She meets with Amanda tomorrow (Fri.) for one last paperwork signing party and then turns everything over to our attorneys.
Dawn (left) -- our hands down favorite nurse -- she's funny and extremely sarcastic (in a cute Wisconsin accent kinda way) and made our time at St. Joseph's Hospital better than we could have ever expected. That's Michelle on the right -- she's great too and was assigned to Everett on his last day there.
As great as they all were, though, we were very ready to get out of there.
Everett didn't seem to care where he was as long as he was cozy.
Swaddled and happy at our hotel.
Occasionally we'd catch him yawning.
Or trying to open his eyes.
But this was his preference for the day.
He sends his love to you all, by the way.
As for coming "home" home. It looks promising that we'll know our court date on Tuesday (the next step in this process) and it's possible that we could come home by next weekend (although some things have to fall in place fairly quickly for that to happen). We booked change-able airfare for Saturday, May 1st. We'll see if it holds.
Oh, and I talked to birthmom Amanda tonight. She's doing okay -- had an emotional morning, but by the afternoon got out of her apartment with her boyfriend. She sounded good though and we have plans to get together at least once before we leave town.
Life is good!

JOY!! OH JOY!! So excited for all of you!! AND I am just so proud of you and Dennis!! EVERETT IS GORGEOUS!! JUST STUNNING!! AND I kept thinking what an angel...what a little angel...then I saw it (a little sign) an ANGEL statue - right over your shoulder in the hospital room as you posed with Amanda and I thought - wow...this is so meant to BE!! I am such a believer of "signs" (drives Joe a little nutty) but truly...he is so meant to be a Nelson...and as a matter of fact, with such a CLASSY name...I am thinking White House...oh yeah, LOVE his name!!
ReplyDeleteReally can't wait to meet him! Try to get some rest...those 3am feedings will sneak up in no time!! Blessings to your whole family!!
Cheers! Deb (and Joe) :)
